We went to the ultrasound today at the specialist’s office. We were encouraged to see some of the changes since the last appointment. She had gained weight, had plenty of amniotic fluid, and she had managed to do two full turns in a week, breech to head down, back to breech and then head down again. She also was doing a few things that speak well for her neurologically like sucking, swallowing and practicing breathing. However, her bladder is still enlarged, and there is still fluid on the left kidney, especially. This, accompanied with her minimal arm and leg movement has led the doctors to monitor brain carefully. In the last two weeks, there has been a continuous fluid on her brain, the left ventricle especially enlarged. This has led them to believe that where the fluid has built up, there could be a lack of brain tissue there. This would explain the gap in communication with her bladder and her limbs. The doctors were surprised to see movement, breathing, and weight gain at this appointment, and it was good to see their prognosis was limited. They are skeptical of her survival to term and even more concerned with her quality and length of life outside the womb. We had debated c-sectioning to intervene, but her chances of being big enough and mature enough to survive the intervention are low. So, contrary to our nature and human anxiety, we have decided to wait. We have already seen God work miracles in our family, in our friends and in those we know are not believers who are watching this event unfold. We have also see God show us mercy, patience and unreasonable strength in the situation. So, with that, we wait patiently and ask the Lord for complete healing. Just like parents of a child lost in the woods, we pray for whole and complete recovery, that she will hear the voice of Jesus and come to us healed and well. In the event that God decides to do differently, we will meet Him where He leads us. I will be seeing the doctor weekly and the specialist again in 2-3 weeks. The plan right now is to deliver her in 5 weeks. That is a long time to wait…..but we will do it with patience, prayer and PRAISE…for our God is good, wise, and right.
